XRechnung

XRechnung without the XML headache

Cypher Intern creates XRechnung 3.0 files from the invoices you write, reads incoming XRechnung automatically and checks files against the official rules. Built for small businesses in Germany getting ready for the e-invoicing mandate.

What Cypher Intern does with XRechnung

  • Creates XRechnung 3.0 (CII syntax) from any invoice you write, as an XML download or as an email attachment to your customer

  • Checks your company and customer details for missing mandatory information before the file is generated

  • Reads incoming XRechnung in CII and UBL syntax from your email inbox, Drive or OneDrive folders or a manual upload, taking the data straight from the XML without AI guessing

  • Writes your customer's Leitweg-ID into the XRechnung, as public authorities require, and checks its check digits

  • Sends invoices via Peppol through your own Storecove account, on plans with Peppol sending

  • Checks any XRechnung or ZUGFeRD file with the free validator, against the official EN 16931 and KoSIT rules

How it works

  1. 1

Enter your company details, VAT ID and bank details once.

  2. 2

Connect your email inbox or a Drive folder. Incoming e-invoices are read automatically and land in your review queue.

  3. 3

Write outgoing invoices as usual and download them as XRechnung or send them to your customer by email.

  4. 4

Pass everything on to your bookkeeping with the DATEV or Lexware export.

Good to know

  • For invoices to public authorities, enter the authority's Leitweg-ID with the customer. Cypher Intern creates the XRechnung; you upload it to the authority's portal or send it via Peppol.
  • For a binding check before sending invoices to public authorities, we recommend the official KoSIT validator as well.

Frequently asked questions

XRechnung is the German standard for structured electronic invoices, based on the European norm EN 16931. The invoice is an XML file that accounting software can read without retyping.

From 1 January 2027, businesses with more than €800,000 turnover in 2026 must issue e-invoices for domestic B2B sales; from 1 January 2028 this applies to all businesses. XRechnung is one accepted format, ZUGFeRD from the BASIC profile up is another. Receiving e-invoices has been mandatory for all businesses since 1 January 2025.

Yes. Save the authority's Leitweg-ID with the customer (or enter it on the invoice) and Cypher Intern writes it into the XRechnung. You then upload the file to the authority's invoice portal or send it via Peppol.

XRechnung is a pure XML file. ZUGFeRD is a PDF with the same kind of structured data embedded, so people can read it and software can process it. Cypher Intern creates both.

Only during the transition. Until the end of 2026, all businesses may still send paper or plain PDF invoices for domestic B2B sales, with the recipient's consent for PDFs. Businesses with turnover up to €800,000 may do so until the end of 2027.

Yes. Upload it to the free validator. It shows whether the file is valid, lists any errors with their rule number and displays the invoice contents in readable form. No account is needed and the file isn't stored.
